How Telegram auto-delete works
When Does the Inactivity Timer Start?
The countdown starts the last time you open Telegram on any device — mobile, desktop, or Telegram Web. Every time you log in again, the timer resets from that moment. It does not track from when the account was originally created.
What Happens When the Timer Expires?
If you don’t log in before the deadline, Telegram permanently deletes the account along with its chats, contacts, and account data. Your phone number and username become available for someone else to register, and the deletion cannot be undone.
How Can You Prevent Auto-Deletion?
Simply opening Telegram before the deadline resets the inactivity timer immediately. You don’t need to send a message — just logging in on any device is enough to keep the account active.
